The most representative material is CR-39, which is made of a hard and transparent material with a refractive index of 1.499 and a transmittance of 92%. From its material characteristics, it has good thermal stability, remains unchanged below 150 degrees Celsius, has good water and corrosion resistance (except strong acids), is not soluble in common organic solvents, is lightweight with a density of 1.32, which is half that of glass, has good impact resistance, is not easily broken, has strong safety (in accordance with the FDA standard), is comfortable to wear, and is easy to process. It is widely used (including in semi-frame and no-frame glasses). Its ultraviolet absorption ability is higher than that of glass lenses. However, due to its material limitations, resin lenses also have drawbacks: the surface of the lens is easily wiped and the refractive index of the lens is low, which makes it 1.2-1.3 times thicker than glass lenses.
PC (Polycarbonate Lens Sheet):
Ordinary resin lenses are thermosetting materials, which are liquid in raw form and form solid lenses after heating. PC lenses, also known as "space lenses" and "universe lenses", have the chemical name of polycarbonate, which is a thermoplastic material. That is, the raw material is in solid form, shaped into lens by heating, so the finished lens will also be deformed under excessive heat, which is not suitable for high moisture environment. PC lenses have strong toughness, can not shatter (2 cm can be used for bullet-proof glass), and are hence also known as safety lenses. The specific density of PC lenses is only 2 grams per cubic centimeter, which is the lightest material used for lenses. However, processing is more difficult, and the surface of the lens is very easy to scrape, and has poor thermal stability, becoming soft at 100 degrees Celsius.
